BrightPath House Rules & Resident Conduct Policy
This document outlines the rules and expectations for all residents. Compliance supports a safe, structured, and recovery-focused environment. All residents must review and sign acknowledgment of these rules upon admission.
Resident Eligibility and Ongoing Requirements
- All residents must maintain active employment (or verifiable job-seeking with staff approval) and participate in an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), outpatient treatment, or equivalent recovery-related treatment program unless program was completed with success. Failure to meet these requirements may result in termination of residency.
- Due to the proximity of BrightPath homes to schools and for the safety of all residents and the community:
Individuals with prior convictions for sexual offenses (including any requiring sex offender registration) or arson are not eligible for residency.
Individuals with a history of arson are not eligible for residency.
If a resident is charged with a sexual offense or arson during their residency, they will be required to leave immediately (Immediate Termination).
Safety & Security
- Residents must not loiter or congregate in the front yard; use the back patio only.
- Entry and exit doors must remain closed and locked at all times.
- Weapons, illegal drugs, alcohol, or drug paraphernalia are prohibited (Immediate Termination).
- Floors must be kept clear of trip or slip hazards.
- Spills must be cleaned immediately; use wet floor signage when applicable.
- Each resident must use their personal door code each time they enter or leave the property.
- This ensures accurate tracking of who is on the property and supports curfew enforcement (see Section 10.3).
- Security cameras (which record video and audio 24/7) may not be tampered with in any way, including blocking the camera’s viewing angle (Immediate Termination).
General House Conduct
- Theft or use of another person’s belongings without permission is prohibited (Immediate Termination).
- Locked cabinets or storage areas are prohibited from unauthorized access.
- Lights must be turned off when not in use.
- Residents may never enter another resident’s bedroom (Immediate Termination).
- Bedroom doors must remain closed at all times.
- Proper clothing must be worn in all common areas.
- Personal items may not be left unattended in shared spaces.
- The kitchen closes at 9:00 PM.
- Injectable medications require an approved sharps container.

- Illegal or unprescribed drugs are prohibited (Immediate Termination).
- Residents are subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

- Trash must be disposed of properly; dirty dishes must be placed in the sink.
- Bathrooms must be cleaned after use.
- Bedrooms must be kept clean and sanitary at all times.
- Food is permitted only in the kitchen; no food in bedrooms.
- Residents must clean any mess they create immediately.

- Mattress covers must never be removed.
- Personal belongings must remain in the resident’s assigned room; valuables should be secured. BrightPath is not responsible for theft of property.
- Bedrooms are subject to inspection by BrightPath staff at any time.

- Personal hygiene items must be disposed of properly.
- Residents must maintain personal hygiene and avoid offensive odors.

Behavior & Interpersonal Conduct
- Aggressive, threatening, or violent behavior is prohibited (Immediate Termination).
- Harassment or offensive language is prohibited.
- Lending or borrowing money or property is prohibited.
- Participation in recovery-related programming may be required.
- Romantic or sexual advances toward staff are prohibited (Immediate Termination).
Laundry
- Laundry facilities may only be used during assigned times.
- Laundry areas must be left clean after use.
- Residents may not wash another person’s clothing.
- Feces-soiled items may not be washed or dried in household machines.
- Residents must remove laundry promptly when the cycle is complete and may not leave items unattended for extended periods.
- Lint traps must be cleaned after each use, and any spills or mess in the laundry area must be cleaned immediately.

- No visitors are permitted. This policy ensures maximum safety and maintains a 100% drug-free environment.
For safety and recovery focus, all access is limited to residents and approved staff only.
Quiet Hours, Curfew & Media Use
- Quiet hours are observed daily from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
- Television and other media must be turned off by 10:00 PM Sunday–Thursday and by 11:00 PM on Friday and Saturday.
- Curfew is 10:00 PM Sunday–Thursday and 11:00 PM Friday–Saturday. Residents must be on the property by curfew unless prior approval is granted for documented work, treatment, or recovery-related obligations.

Emergency Procedures
- In case of any emergency (medical, fire, safety threat, etc.), immediately call 911.
- After calling 911, notify the House Leader or BrightPath staff as soon as possible.

Violations & Consequences
Minor violations follow a progressive warning system (see previous versions for full details).
Immediate Termination Offenses (no warnings issued) include the items listed above plus being charged with a sexual offense or arson during residency.
Positive Reinforcement & Privileges
BrightPath encourages progress and positive contributions to the community. Residents who consistently follow rules and demonstrate recovery commitment may earn increased privileges, recognition, and letters of recommendation.
